Guest Post

Today I have a guest post up over at Portrait of an Adoption. If you haven't read this blog before, you should definitely start. Carrie is an adoptive mother who writes beautifully about the ups and downs of adoption. She is featuring a guest post on her blog each day in November to celebrate National Adoption Month, and today is my day. Click *here* to read it.

I do want to add a caveat. My post is about the pain of placement, and I didn't try to pretty up the feelings. But I do not feel any of that pain now. I left that dark beast behind me. I am in such a good place with things. So when you're reading, please keep in mind that the pain I described was temporary, that I got through it, that I'm happy now, and that it was absolutely worth it.

You are an extremely talented writer. I'm an adoptive mom that struggled for months with the pain my son's birth mom was in. It's like we shared a heart for awhile. I, too, think time has helped heal her wounds. We love our time together and my son, though only 3, is starting the foundation that I prays last forever. Thank you for your brutal honesty and transparency. I've given your blog address to 2 birth mothers and I know your words, though tough and un-sugarcoated, also shine through the joy that can come from open adoption and the love you have for Roo. Thank you.

I didn't connect the two at first as I've recently started to follow your blog ... Thank you for sharing your personal story. I am a mom through adoption with open ongoing and loving relationships with each of our daughter's birth mothers. I don't always know how they feel or felt when they entrusted each girl to us and I think reading your words and those of others who have made entrustments gives me some insight.

Jill, thank you for your post. I have just written about the connection I share with our birth mother, you can read it here:

Your post gave me insight into what our BM must be feeling.
Thank you!

It was a beautifully written post. I cried, felt your words in my gut. But it was a beautiful story. You're an amazing woman, and I am so glad that you're able to share so much with your "extended family." Just amazing. <3

Your guest post was brilliant, as I knew it would be. I shared the link on Facebook and my daughter's birth mom read it and commented that it really helps her to know she isn't the only one. She doesn't open up too much but I think she still struggles a lot. Her life hasn't really stabilized or improved and I worry about her a lot and I love that I was able to help her find a birth mom story that reassured her. Thank you a billion times for being so willing to share your story.
