Deep Thoughts, By Oprah Winfrey

I'm not usually an Oprah fan (although I do like the supercut of her shouting the names of various celebrities). But I do like this quote I found on-line that has been attributed to her: "Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother."

Not having heard Oprah actually speak those words, I can't vouch for the context. But I think it's a good addition to my collection of adoption quotes.

What are some of your favorite adoption (or adoption-related) quotes?

I found this quote by Richard Bach that I feel describe our relationship with Natalie and CJ very well:

"The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life."

I have to disagree with you about your quote.

Biology is NOT the least of what makes someone a mother.

Biology IS what makes a person a mother (and father). My dna is always & forever a part of my son. I am always & forever his mother. He is always & forever my son. Adoption did not "unbirth" me as his mother.

Yes. He has another mother, who is lucky enough to have raised him. But that does not take away the basic fact that I am the mother that brought him into this world. I am the mother that has loved him since before his birth.

I was curious how birth mom's would feel about that quote. I loved it because it applies so much to me but I didn't want to her our birth mom or any other birth moms. It makes me feel a lot better that you posted it. :)

My fav:

We look at adoption as a very sacred exchange. It was not done lightly on either side. I would dedicate my life to this child.
